Project Timeline

How long will your next project take? Of course, the answer is simple: “It depends.” There are dozens of variables that factor into the timing of a project—but staying organized and having a timeline can make all the difference.

1

Get Inspired

Timeframe: 4-6 Weeks

It’s time to think big. First, immerse yourself in reference materials like our Inspiration Gallery and Product Brochure. Then create a wishlist of everything you want. The more specific, the better.

Quick Tip
Putting together a mood board with design ideas, cabinet styles, storage solutions and references is a great way to organize your thoughts.

2

Meet With A Designer

Timeframe: 1-2 Weeks

Once you know what you want out of your project, it’s time to connect with the experts. Schedule a meeting with a Lowe's Kitchen Design Specialist and make connections with a local contractor to start getting estimates for how much everything will cost—and how long it will take.

Quick Tip
A contractor can assess the difficulty and cost of moving things like plumbing and electrical elements. If your project involves making changes to these elements, check with your contractor first.

3

Measuring and Design

Timeframe: 3-4 Weeks

When you have a sense of the parameters of your project, get measurements—either yourself or with the help of a contractor or a licensed independent installer from Lowe’s. Once you’ve gotten measurements to your construction partners, they can develop a preliminary design. Then, you’ll work together to fine-tune until you’re ready to sign off.

Quick Tip
Don’t expect to get to a final design overnight. Going back and forth with your designer can take time and is an essential part of any project.

4

Ordering Your Cabinets

Timeframe: 4-6 Weeks

Once your design is finalized, it’s time to order your cabinets! Cabinets are made-to-order just for you. Use the time while they’re in production to finalize any additional selections like countertops, tiles backsplashes, lighting and more.

Quick Tip
Remember that you’ll have to wait until your base cabinets are installed before your countertops can be measured, cut and prepared.

5

Installation

Timeframe: 2-4 Weeks Or More

The wait is over. As exciting as installation can be, remember you’ll be without a working kitchen for much of the process. Plan ahead by setting up a temporary kitchen space somewhere else in your home.  The length of the install can vary depending on the level of work being done.

Quick Tip
Painting an empty room is much easier than the alternative—consider painting after you’ve removed your old cabinets and before your new ones are installed. Then, do touch-ups once the installation is complete.

6

Touch-Ups

Timeframe: 2-4 Weeks

Once your kitchen is back in one piece, you’ll likely spend a few weeks making little optimizations—correcting minor errors, fixing drywall, installing stray lighting figures, or even finishing up with items like backsplashes. This is a natural part of the timeline of any project.

Quick Tip
Don’t expect your new kitchen to be perfect on day one. Sooner or later, it will all come together—and most of the time, it happens incrementally.
